Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Statement on the Biden-Harris Administration's Decision to Discontinue the CHNV Parole Program

Houston, TX - Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (D-TX-29) issued the following statement after the Biden-Harris Administration's decision not to extend the CHNV parole program that's providing temporary legal status for hundreds of thousands of migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela:

"The Biden administration should be working to expand legal pathways of migration to help reduce pressures at our border and help manage our immigration challenges. It is deeply disappointing that the administration is deciding to discontinue the CHNV parole program that has provided those fleeing Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Haiti with a critical lifeline.

"We can both secure our border and provide relief to immigrants who need our help. These are not mutually exclusive goals. They should not leave the more than 500,000 individuals who have benefited from this program in limbo. The Biden administration should reconsider this decision."
