NEW YORK, NY - June 22, 2026 - Independent Film Company today announced a special celebration of BOYHOOD, the landmark coming-of-age drama filmed over 12 years by acclaimed filmmaker Richard Linklater. Twelve years after its theatrical release captivated audiences and critics alike, the film's cast and creators will reunite in Austin, Texas, where the film was made, for a one-night-only anniversary event before BOYHOOD returns to theaters nationwide.

Hosted by Austin Film Society, who also served as a producer on the film, the July 18 reunion event will feature a special screening, red carpet premiere and live Q&A with director Richard Linklater and stars Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and Ellar Coltrane in attendance. The evening will celebrate the enduring legacy of a film that remains one of the most ambitious and acclaimed achievements in independent cinema.

Released by Independent Film Company (formerly IFC Films) in 2014, BOYHOOD remains the highest-grossing film in the studio's history, earning more than $25 million at the domestic box office and becoming a breakthrough success for arthouse movie theaters nationwide.

BOYHOOD ultimately garnered countless awards and nominations including six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Film Editing, with Patricia Arquette winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. BOYHOOD also earned three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director for Linklater and Best Supporting Actress for Arquette.

Said Linklater, "BOYHOOD follows 12 years of time going by, and it was an honor to share that journey alongside the dedicated cast and crew. 24 years after shooting year one, it means a lot to us to be having this reunion in the place it began, ended, and continues. We're excited that the film will be back in select theaters for people to potentially revisit or see for the first time with an audience."

"BOYHOOD captures something deeply human about growing up and the passage of time in a way few films ever have. It's an honor to be part of its continued life in theaters as we celebrate it again 12 years after its original release and invite audiences to experience it-old and new-on the big screen," said Head of IFC Entertainment Group, Scott Shooman.
