On September 2, the Liberian Ministry of Public Works held a groundbreaking ceremony for two China Aid overpass bridges on Tubman Boulevard in Liberia. Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu and Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai attended and delivered remarks. Also present were Liberian Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Public Works Roland Lafayette Giddings, and other ministers from various Liberian government departments.
Ambassador Yin stated that the project is implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state and outcomes of the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. It serves as a vivid illustration of the continuously deepening strategic partnership between the two countries. He expressed hope that the project would not only become bridges of friendship and exemplar model of cooperation between China and Liberia, but also boost the national development agenda and enhance people's livelihood in Liberia.
President Boakai extended heartfelt appreciation to China for its continued support to Liberia's development, describing the two overpasses as a strong symbol of Liberia-China cooperation. He emphasized that this project will significantly ease traffic congestion, boost economic growth, and create substantial employment opportunities. It represents a key initiative by the Liberian government to implement its ARREST development agenda and deliver tangible benefits to the people.
