FORT LEE, Va. - Eligible patrons, through Oct. 31, can use their MILITARY STAR card to make interest-free commissary purchases with no payments for three months.

Existing and new MIITARY STAR card holders can take advantage of this limited-time offer designed to help provide some financial relief during the ongoing lapse in government appropriations, according to an Army & Air Force news release distributed today.

The MILITARY STAR card is offered through the Department of War (DoW) credit program, exclusively for military personnel and their families, DoW civilians*, retirees, Purple Heart recipients and disabled veterans, and veterans who received an honorable or general under honorable conditions discharge.

Congress established the program to offer "responsible and affordable credit solutions to the military community." The STAR card is noted by Bankrate, a personal finance website, as having the lowest everyday APR of all available store credit cards, the AAFES release said.

* DoW civilians who are not assigned to command-sponsored overseas assignments can only use the STAR card at select stores that allow expanded access to the commissary benefit.
