What Every Woman Should Know: Aspirus Hosts Talk With A Doc on Gynecologic Health and Cancer Awareness

When it comes to women's health, knowledge can be one of the most powerful tools for prevention and early detection. Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics is inviting community members to attend an upcoming "Talk With A Doc" event focused on gynecologic health, cancer awareness, and preventive care. From adolescence through menopause and beyond, understanding gynecologic health is an important part of maintaining overall wellness at every stage of a woman's life.

The event will feature Janet Turner, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology Physician, at Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center who will discuss the importance of routine gynecologic care, cancer prevention, screening recommendations, and the specialized women's health services available locally.

The Talk With A Doc series brings local medical expertise directly to the community, offering attendees the opportunity to learn from providers, ask questions, and gain practical insights into important health topics.

"Many gynecologic cancers can be successfully treated when detected early, which is why education and preventive care are so important," said Dr. Turner. "Understanding your risk factors, knowing the warning signs, and staying current with recommended screenings can help women take an active role in protecting their health and well-being."

The event will take place Tuesday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Aspirus Laurium Clinic, 205 Osceola Street, Laurium. Light refreshments will be provided.

During the session, attendees will learn about:

• The importance of routine gynecologic care and preventive screenings
• Common gynecologic cancers, including cervical, ovarian, and uterine cancer
• Risk factors, symptoms, and warning signs women should know
• Current recommendations for Pap tests, HPV screening, and preventive care
• Treatment options and specialized care available close to home
• Common questions about women's reproductive and gynecologic health

"Having access to specialty gynecologic care in our community allows women to receive expert care close to home," said Janet Turner, MD. "My goal is to help patients understand their health, feel comfortable asking questions, and know when to seek care so they can make informed decisions at every stage of life."

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. To register or learn more, call 906-337-6541 or visit aspirus.org/classes-events.
