The City of Chula Vista is now accepting nominations for the annual Sustainability Champion Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations making a positive impact on environmental sustainability in the community. Nominations will be accepted until Tuesday, March 31 at 5 p.m.
The awards are an initiative of the City of Chula Vista's Sustainability Commission and the Office of Sustainability and are designed to recognize local leaders who are helping advance clean air, water and land for future generations.
Community members are encouraged to nominate any individual or group that lives or works in Chula Vista and is making a difference through sustainability efforts. The awards program, which has been held annually for more than a decade, celebrates those leading by example and inspiring others to adopt environmentally responsible practices.
"These awards help celebrate local sustainability champions doing amazing work in our community," said Coleen Wisniewski, staff liaison to the Sustainability Commission. "And hopefully these individuals inspire others to make eco-friendly choices in their everyday actions."
Awards will be presented in the following categories: City Employee, Educator, Student, Resident, Business, Organization and Community Contributor.
Nomination forms are available on the City of Chula Vista website and must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. Award recipients will be recognized at a Chula Vista City Council meeting later this spring and during South Bay Earth Day on Saturday, April 18.
The Sustainability Commission hopes the awards will continue to highlight local environmental leaders and encourage residents and organizations to support sustainability through everyday actions.
