Dr. Amber M. K. Smallwood appointed as senior vice provost of faculty affairs

[Link]The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Amber M.K. Smallwood as the senior vice provost of faculty affairs. Smallwood will join HSC on Oct. 1, bringing with her a distinguished career in academic leadership and a wealth of experience.

Smallwood has held several significant administrative positions, including vice provost of academic innovation at the University of Texas at Arlington. In this role, she led strategic innovation initiatives to support and accelerate adoption across academic units, reshaping and developing infrastructure to enhance the university's portfolio of online programs. She also served at UTA as assistant vice provost of academic planning and policy, where she coordinated the university's academic program portfolio and facilitated curriculum development.

Prior to her tenure at UTA, Smallwood was interim dean of the College of Social Sciences at the University of West Georgia. She oversaw strategic planning and operations, faculty and staff recruitment, academic programming and community engagement. She also served as associate dean of the College of Social Sciences at UWG where she collaborated with the dean in overall management and planning.

At UWG, the university recognized her as Faculty Member of the Year and later Advisor Advocate of the Year. Later, when back in Texas, she participated in the Texas Academic Leadership Academy. Most recently, she has served as vice president, president and now past president of the Texas Council of Chief Academic Officers.

As senior vice provost of faculty affairs at HSC, Smallwood will be a senior academic administrator with university-wide responsibilities related to assisting the deputy provost in the supervision and management of all academic colleges, departments and programs to deliver high-quality education, research and service. Her extensive experience in academic leadership, strategic planning and community engagement makes her an excellent fit for the position.

Smallwood holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and American Studies from Indiana University Bloomington. She also has an M.A. in Telecommunications from Ohio University, Athens and a B.S. in Radio-Television-Film from The University of Texas at Austin.
