On May 17, 2026, at approximately 12:20 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a motorcycle versus vehicle crash near the 1600 block of South Nevada Avenue. Upon officers arriving on scene, they learned that the motorcycle operator was deceased on scene. The motorcycle passenger, along with all three occupants of the other involved vehicle, were transported from the scene in critical condition to a local hospital.
Due to the circumstances of the crash, the CSPD Major Crash Team was notified and responded, assuming responsibility for the investigation. Initial on-scene indications showed that the motorcycle was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in the center lane when it struck the other involved vehicle as it attempted to make a left turn from the northbound lanes into a parking lot. At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.
On May 18, 2026, the CSPD was notified by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the rider had been positively identified as 43-year-old Jason Mullet.
No formal charges have been filed at this time. This remains an open and active investigation.
This incident marks the 23rd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced fourteen traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 65 traffic-related fatalities within the city.
