News Release Date: October 9, 2026
6,829 acres
61% contained
968 personnel
Operational Update
Containment increased to 61% on the Dome Fire yesterday as firefighters continued to work in challenging remote conditions. Aircraft supported Interagency Hotshot Crews on the ground and kept the fire in its current footprint. Yesterday, fire activity was minimal.
Today, crews will continue to mop up and patrol the north and west side. On the east side, hose lines will be extended down from the north and up from the south. Firefighters will also work to complete handlines on the east side, and structure protection remains in place at the Ostrander ski hut. The east side remains the number one priority for firefighters, and fresh crews are rotated in as needed. Fire activity again is expected to be minimal where lines are in place. Any new ignitions that occur outside of the fireline will have potential to grow.
Weather
The low pressure approaching the coast today will lead to slight cooling into the 60s for highs and an increase in afternoon-evening southwest winds with gusts 15-25 mph. Winds are expected to increase further Saturday and become southerly with afternoon gusts 25-35 mph and high temperatures mostly in the 50s.
