About the Event:
Operation SUDs will be partnering with A Betor Way for a recurring needle exchange and patient education event. Student pharmacists will aid in the distribution of harm reduction supplies, overdose prevention education and resources, and various other tasks in service of patients who struggle with substance use disorders. Treatment centers and other organizations will have representatives at each event, connecting these patients with resources for HIV/AIDS treatment, housing assistance, recovery programs, etc. These are all efforts to help limit the spread of disease and connect those who are struggling with substance use disorder with the resources needed for recovery and prevention of a fatal overdose. This event fulfills four of our national initiatives in serving as educators on medication abuse, increasing knowledge of substance use disorders and recovery tools among student pharmacists, decreasing stigma surrounding substance use disorder, and promoting pharmacy's valuable role in serving our communities and the patients who comprise them. Student pharmacists may dress casually and to their comfort. This event is outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather. This event is a judgment-free zone. Professional conduct and patient empathy are expected so as to reflect positively on our university and our chosen profession as a whole.

About the Event:
We will be helping till, weed, and maintain a community garden at New Sardis Baptist Church. The food is collected and shared with the local community including elderly residents who cannot access fresh fruits & veggies on their own. Please bring water, sunscreen, and clothing that can get dirty. If you have them, we also recommend bringing gardening gloves and shoes that cover your ankles.
The garden is located behind New Sardis Baptist Church (7739 E Holmes Rd). You can enter through whatever gate is open-more often it is the one at the bottom of the hill. The garden is at the back of the parking lot.
If you are having trouble finding us, no one is there, or you are unsure if the event is still happening due to the weather, please contact Drew Lancaster at 615-946-3024 or Sahil Patel at 931-227-8142. We look forward to gardening with you!
If you are there on Saturday Morning, and the gate is closed please contact: Tracy - 901-497-9430
The events highlighted are open to anyone but might require additional training or information after registration. If you have a volunteer activity that you would like to highlight on this digest, please email the Office of Leadership and Service at [email protected].
