From 16 to 18 January, Mr. Stefano TOMAT, Commander of the civilian operations of the European Union visited Mali together with Mr. Vincent RINGENBERG, Deputy Head, Conduct and planning of operations. The visit was the occasion to interact with the Malian and the international partners; it also gave rise to several interactions with the staff of EUCAP Sahel Mali.

Meeting the national partner and the international partners of the mission, provided the Civilian operations Commander with the opportunity to exchange on the DNA of the mission, which is about training, counselling and equipping the Malian counterpart.

Together with the Head of mission, Mr. Peter GRABOW KOLDING, the delegation met in Bamako with the hierarchy of the Malian internal security forces. Mr. TOMAT went to Kourémalé, in the south of the country, bordering Guinea, to visit an important site for the interoperability of the Malian internal security forces as well as an outpost of integrated border management.

In Mopti, in the center of Mali, Mr. TOMAT visited the House of Justice.

KOUREMALE

On 16 January, Mr. TOMAT had the possibility to interact with the high echelons of the Ministry of security and the protection of civilians (MSPC) on the functioning of the inter-forces' hub as well as on its added value in the ambit of integrated border management and the fight against transnational organized crime. An ambulance and medical equipment were donated by the mission during this visit. Noteworthy is that the medical ward of the Center is equally accessible to the local population. The border police post was also visited. The complementarity and the added value of both infrastructures has been highlighted by many interlocutors during the visit.

VISIT TO MOPTI

Under the auspices of the Minister of Justice and accompanied by the Head of Mission, Mr. TOMAT went to Mopti on 17 January for two work visits: the regional branch of the judicial unit specializing in the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime, on the one hand and the House of Justice, on the verge of completion, on the other. The House of Justice, unique in its ambition and scope, aims to bring justice closer to the citizens as the house will function as a hub for magistrates to serve justice, bridging an important gap for people living in remote places.

TALKS WITH TECHNICAL PARTNERS

Mr. TOMAT has, against the backdrop of the new mandate of the mission (2025-2027) held talks on collaboration with the mission, inter alia with the Director of the school of the national police, the Director of the main Center for the internal security forces on gender based violence, the so called 'One Stop Center' as well as with the Chief of the Inspections and the Commissioner for security sector reform.

VISITING HQ AND EXCHANGING WITH MISSION MEMBERS

On January 18, Mr. TOMAT paid a visit to the headquarters of the mission; this enabled him to meet staff and visit the premises. It was also the occasion for some staff to receive their medal of service.
