Corpus Christi Fire Department Sees Major Improvements in FY 2024

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX-The City of Corpus Christi continued its commitment to public safety in fiscal year 2024 by significantly improving and expanding the Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD).

The CCFD received equipment upgrades and staff growth to serve the community better.

Improvements included :

• Three replacement medic units
• One replacement fire engine pumper
• Five emergency response vehicles with upgraded features
• A Type 7 Brush Truck for difficult-to-reach areas during wildland fires and special events
• 4 Lifepak Cardiac Monitors to support disaster readiness and special events
• Nine new sworn positions were added, totaling 455 firefighters
• 34 cadets graduated from the 45th Academy this year

"We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Corpus Christi's residents through modernized infrastructure and an expanded workforce," said Fire Chief Brandon Wade. "These advancements will improve response times and ensure that we are prepared for the growing needs of our community."

A new Fire Station #3 on Morgan Avenue is expected to be completed in Spring 2025. The new modern station is designed to accommodate 12 firefighters and features complete living quarters. It includes four pull-through apparatus bays, a community room, a weight room, a report writing watch office, a training mezzanine, support spaces, and a backup power generator.

Looking forward to the future of public safety, fire stations, and staffing will include:

• The design phase of Fire Station #8, which will be located at Kostoryz Road and McArdle Road
• Construction is expected to begin on Fire Station #10 near its current location on Horne Road and Greenwood
• The next group of 22 cadets is expected to complete their training in Spring 2025

These aspects will improve the department's ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies across all terrains.
