Holiday schedule and closures for City of Iowa City

Iowa City administrative offices and other facilities will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, for the Christmas holiday, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, for the New Year's Day holiday.

Please note that trash, compost, and recycling normally collected on Thursdays and Fridays will be collected on the Friday following both holidays.

Other office closures and schedules for the holidays include:

Airport: City Administration Office closed Dec. 24-26, and Dec 31-Jan 2. Jet Air (FBO) staffed 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 24 and will be closed Dec. 25, but will be available for a fee by calling 319-248-1200.

FBO services will be available at regular hours during all other dates and available after hours, for a fee. Self-Service fueling (100LL and Jet-A) is available 24 hours.

Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed Dec. 24-25. Open 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 26. Open normal hours on New Year's Eve Dec. 31. Closed New Year's Day, Jan. 1, 2026.

Cemetery: Office closed Dec. 24-25, 2025, as well as Jan. 1, 2026.

Garbage, Recycling, and Composting Collection: Garbage, recycling, and composting will not be collected on the holidays, but on the Friday after.

• Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday both weeks. Please have your carts to the curb by 7 a.m. Friday.
• Natural holiday trees can be left at the curb by 7 a.m. on resident's collection day and will be picked up throughout the season. No tag is needed. Remove all lights and decorations beforehand.

Landfill and Recycling Center: Closing at 3 p.m. on Dec. 24. Closed Dec. 25, 2025, and Jan. 1, 2026.

Library: Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 24. Closed Dec. 25. Regular hours Dec. 26. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 31, closed Jan. 1, 2026.

ICPL Bookmobile: Not operating.

Parking: Office closed, no enforcement Dec. 24- Dec. 25. Office closed, no enforcement New Year's Day, Jan. 1, 2026.

Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices closed Dec. 24-25, 2025, and Jan. 1, 2026.

• Recreation facilities closed Dec. 24-25, 2025, as well as Jan. 1, 2026. Recreation facilities open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 26. Recreation facilities open 6:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Police: Administration and Records offices closed, Dec. 24-25, 2025, and Jan. 1, 2026. Patrol and station masters will be on duty.

Senior Center: Closed Dec. 24-25, 2025, and Jan. 1, 2026.

Transit: No bus service on Christmas or New Year's Day.

• Dec. 24: Operating on Saturday schedule; last buses departing at 6 p.m.
• Dec. 25: No service.
• Dec. 26: Regular service.
• Dec. 31: Regular service with last buses departing at 6 p.m.
• Jan. 1: No service.
• 3- Eastside Loop out of service from Dec. 21, 2025, through Jan 5, 2026, due to ICCSD winter break.

Water: Closed Dec. 24-25, and Jan. 1. Residents with a water emergency should call the 24-hour emergency line at 319-356-5166.

Wastewater: Closed Dec. 24-25, and Jan. 1. Residents with a wastewater emergency should call the 24-hour emergency line at 319-356-5177.

City offices and services will operate on their regular schedules beginning Friday, December 26 through Wednesday, December 31, 2025. After the New Year's Day holiday, normal operations will resume again on Friday, January 2, 2026.
