Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade and Government Commissioner for AI Jan Kavalírek met with Darius Standersk, Deputy Minister of Digitalization of Poland, in Warsaw. The Czech and Polish teams have begun discussions on a possible joint application for the AI Gigafactory project within the European initiative EuroHPC JU.

"The negotiations with Polish partners open the way to the creation of a major CEE supercomputer centre for artificial intelligence. The Czech project is fully developed, including the building permit and technical capacities, thanks primarily to the excellent work of my deputy Jan Kavalírek and the readiness of Czech Radiocommunications. Regional cooperation will improve the use of investments and increase the chances of obtaining European funds. The AI Gigafactory will strengthen the Czech economy, research and security and allow the scientific community access to cutting-edge technologies" says Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček about the negotiations.

The meeting agreed to establish regular communication and working teams for individual areas, the aim of which will be to prepare a draft joint application. For the Czech Republic, the main location is the Prague Gateway DC in Jílovište near Prague, which is being built by the Czech Radiocommunication and the Polish initiative AI Gigafactory. The aim is to share investment and operating costs between the countries, which will increase the effectiveness, energy efficiency and security of the entire project. The Polish delegation was led by Dariusz Standerski, Deputy Minister of Digitalization.

Gigafactory project will mean not only for the Czech Republic, but for the entire Central and Eastern European region, strengthening our sovereignty and an absolutely fundamental technological benefit, thanks to which we will no longer be just users of artificial intelligence, but will become its creator and technological leader. We will create the most advanced AI models by ourselves, which we will use for healthcare, transport or strengthening our security, but also for AI research, supporting universities and our SMEs and creating an entire technological ecosystem" says Deputy Minister and Government Plenipotentiary for AI Jan Kavalírek and adds: "Joining forces with our partners from Poland is a strategic step that increases our CEE region's chances of success. I therefore appreciate the friendly and constructive approach of Deputy Minister Dariusz Standerski and his team at yesterday's meeting and I look forward to preparing a joint proposal."

In addition to the Government Commissioner Kavalírek, the Czech delegation also included the Head of the AI and New Technologies Department, Markéta Šilhavá, General Director Miloš Mastník, Operations Director Petr Možiš from the Czech Radiocommunication, a.s., and General Director Vít Vondrák from IT4Innovations, which already operates the largest Czech supercomputer centre in Ostrava, key partners of the national AI Gigafactory CZ project.

Gigafactory CZ project proposal received the green light from the government on November 12, 2025, by an approved resolution . The project is based on the Action Plan of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Czech Republic 2030 for 2026. The AI Gigafactory CZ Coordination Council was also established, consisting of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), Czech Radiocommunications, IT4Innovations and other key entities. The project is planned to be implemented from 2026 and its budget exceeds 90 billion Czech crowns, with approximately a third covered by the European and state subsidies and the rest financed by the private sector.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is working intensively on submitting the final application in spring 2026 within the framework of the EuroHPC JU call, while further meetings of the Coordination Council will ensure rapid progress of preparations. The project proposal will also focus on cybersecurity, energy efficiency and coherence with the national artificial intelligence strategy of the Czech Republic 2030, which will guarantee its long-term effectiveness and importance in the European artificial intelligence infrastructure.
