St. Davids, PA: On February 14, Eastern University's Merriman Art Gallery will host a historic art exhibition showcasing select masterpieces from Eastern's own Goebel Graphic Art Collection. This exhibition represents the first time these pieces have been shown on campus.
The collection of etchings, engravings, lithographs, and wood cuts include works by Rembrandt, Durer, Monet, Kollwitz, Cezanne, Chagall, Dali, Eichenberg, Whistler, Goya, Rockwell Kent, Degas, Michel Ciry, Eric Gill, and others.
New York attorney Dr. Harry C. Goebel bequeathed the 1,300-piece collection to Eastern University in 1966 and frequently gave talks about the collection until his death in 1976.
The opening reception will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Merriman Art Gallery in Templeton Hall and the exhibition will be open for viewing until May 15. A commemorative book about the collection will be made available free of charge to attendees of the opening reception.
The exhibition offers students, alumni, and community members a rare opportunity to experience these significant works of art up close. Admission is free and open to the public. There will be light refreshment served for guests as well. For more information, contact [email protected]and follow @themerrimangallery on Instagram.
