BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film will present "The SpongeBob Musical" from April 10-13 in the Thomas B. and Kathleen M. Donnell Theatre at the Wolfe Center for the Arts.

Based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg and book by Kyle Jarrow, "The SpongeBob Musical" is set in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom at the beginning of what seems to be a normal day. When SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy and their friends learn their city is facing an imminent eruption of Mt. Humongous, the community must band together to save their underwater world. Though chaos ensues as residents deliberate the best way to address the impending disaster, an unsuspecting hero emerges, highlighting the power of optimism, friendship and unity in the face of catastrophe.

Directed by JD Caudill, the BGSU production of "The SpongeBob Musical" is led by Alejandro Alvarez as SpongeBob SquarePants, Willie Rose and Jess Driggs as his best friends, Patrick Star and Sandy Cheeks, and Mel Starcher as Squidward Tentacles, SpongeBob's neighbor and sarcastic coworker at the Krusty Krab. Also included in the cast are Dominic Merrill as Eugene Krabs, SpongeBob's boss at the Krusty Krab and Gabriel Dunn as Sheldon Plankton, nemesis of Eugene Krabs and SpongeBob. BGSU alumni, faculty and staff members in the Department of Theatre and Film make up the artistic and production team.

The musical comedy features original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Colton, Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T's, They Might Be Giants, and T.I. Additional songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton. Additional music by Tom Kit. Musical production conceived by Tina Landau.

Performances of "The SpongeBob Musical" at BGSU are set for 8 p.m. on April 10-12 and 2 p.m. on April 12-13. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for seniors and $15 for adults and can be purchased in advance at BGSU.edu/the-arts/tickets. All ticket sales are cashless.
