Geisinger College’s School of Medicine holds White Coat Ceremony for Class of 2030

Of the 126 students entering the class, 81 are Pennsylvania residents, including 35 from counties within Geisinger's service region. The class also includes 35 Abigail Geisinger Scholars, reflecting the school's commitment to educating future physicians dedicated to serving communities across the region.

Beyond academic excellence, members of the Class of 2030 have already demonstrated a strong commitment to service and patient care, making them a perfect match for Geisinger's community-focused care. Before applying to medical school, these 126 students collectively contributed more than 30,000 medical volunteer hours and 36,000 non-medical volunteer hours. They also completed more than 92,000 research hours, another hallmark of a Geisinger education.

"The White Coat Ceremony is an inspiring welcome to our new students at the School of Medicine. It marks the beginning of a sometimes difficult but always rewarding journey of turning eager learners into compassionate healers. They will serve the people of our communities and beyond," Geisinger College's
president and medical school dean, Julie Byerley, MD, MPH, said. "It will be a great joy to watch this class grow into their roles as future physician leaders."

Amanda Caleb, PhD, MPH presented the Dr. Lester Saidman Memorial Lecture, named in honor of the respected physician and educator from Luzerne County. Dr. Caleb is a professor of Medical Humanities at the School of Medicine's Center for Medical Humanities.
