Ambassador of Azerbaijan to ASEAN presents Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN

JAKARTA, 21 January 2026 - His Excellency Ramil Rzayev presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today, officially assuming his role as the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to ASEAN.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Rzayev on his appointment and expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan's continued engagement with ASEAN, including its status as an observer of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) since 2022. He looked forward to working closely with Ambassador Rzayev and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Jakarta to further strengthen ASEAN-Azerbaijan relations. He also encouraged Azerbaijan to explore opportunities for cooperation with ASEAN in areas of mutual interest, such as energy, agriculture, education, trade, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Additionally, Secretary-General Dr. Kao highlighted that Azerbaijan's membership in the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) provides a useful avenue to further advance ASEAN-ECO relations.

Ambassador Rzayev underlined Azerbaijan's interest in strengthening its engagement with ASEAN and expressed his readiness to work closely together in promoting cooperation with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States.

Azerbaijan has accredited its Ambassador to ASEAN since 2011. Ambassador Rzayev is the third Ambassador of Azerbaijan to ASEAN, succeeding Ambassador Jalal Mirzayev, who completed his tenure in December 2024.
