Idaho’s Abandoned Vehicle Portal expands consumer tools

BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department's Division of Motor Vehicles is improving transparency and speeding up communication for Idahoans whose vehicles have been towed. Updates to the state's Abandoned Vehicle Portal now give consumers faster access to information and clearer steps to reclaim their vehicles.

When customers create an online account at dmv.idaho.gov, they are given the option to enroll in e-notifications. These alerts deliver towing notices and other DMV reminders faster than traditional mail, helping Idahoans track their vehicle status in real time.

The tool is designed to answer the common question, "Dude, where's my car," by giving consumers a single place to check status, view tow-company information, and understand next steps.

A key improvement requires tow companies to report towed vehicles within 24 hours. This change shortens the lag between when a vehicle is removed and when the owner can find it online, reducing delays that previously stretched into days or weeks.

These updates support ITD's ongoing work to make vehicle-related services faster, clearer, and more accessible for Idahoans.
