Yuma, Ariz. - Beginning Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the City's Public Works Department will launch its Fall Pavement Preservation Program, which includes slurry, and chip seal treatments. This season's work will focus on improvements in subdivisions, as well as on major arterial, collector, and local streets.
To keep Yuma's roadways in good condition and extend their lifespan, City staff conducts major surface treatments twice a year - spring and fall. These treatments include oil, slurry, and chip seal. Though temporary lane and street closures may be inconvenient, once complete, the roadways will look better, last longer, and will be safer for drivers.
Roadwork is scheduled to run through November, with crews working 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Some weekend and holiday work is planned to help minimize the impact on busier streets.
While roadwork is taking place, drivers should be aware of lane restrictions and road closures, anticipate delays on major roadways, and allow extra time for travel. Message boards will notify motorists in affected areas ahead of scheduled work.
"Our focus this season is on residential neighborhoods and collectors as well as some local and collector streets," said Public Works Superintendent David Higgins. Referring to the thickness of the application to the pavement, he added, "With our application process, we are confident that the roads will have a proper seal, look nice, and provide an improved driving surface. We can extend the life of the pavement anywhere from five to eight years depending on the level and type of traffic."
To keep the community informed, the City's contractors (American Pavement Preservation and Cactus Asphalt) will notify impacted properties 48-hours prior to scheduled maintenance. Property owners will receive a door hanger indicating the work area and dates/times. The City also provides roadway maintenance updates through the weekly Road Report, news releases, social media, and the City website.
