For National Night Out on August 5, City-run block party is an option

If your neighborhood doesn't have its own gathering or you want to join something bigger, come to our block party for activities, games, and food. It's free to all.

As neighbors around Berkeley come together on National Night Out, you also have the option to come to a City-hosted block party featuring activities for kids and food for all.

While getting to know your neighbors at events near you is the foundation of building a community, our citywide event in central Berkeley is a chance to meet people from across the city and also connect with staff from Police, Fire, Parks, and Recreation.

Our block party will have giant inflatable jumpers, carnival games, food, and more. In coming to this or other National Night Out events, join us to build a safer, healthier Berkeley:

Stop the Violence National Night Out Block Party
Tuesday, August 5, 2025
3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
On McGee Ave, between Oregon and Stuart Street
Free event, registration optional

Free City-run block party, open to all

This block party - co-hosted by McGee Avenue Baptist Church and the City of Berkeley Recreation Division's Teen Program - features:

  • Live performances - Spoken word poetry, singing, dancing, drumming
  • Inflatables - Giant jumpers (for ages 5 to 14)
  • Food - Hot dogs, burgers, vegetarian patty, chips, and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Senior area - Shaded senior area with easy access to performances and food
  • Carnival games - Play classic carnival games like ring toss, milk bottle knockdown, and a Ferris wheel-themed toss
  • Community booths - Berkeley Police Department, Heart 2 Heart, Healthy Black Families, Tobacco Prevention, Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention, the Rent Board, and more
  • Connect with City teams - Meet staff from Police, Fire, Parks, Public Health, and more-including City Council members.

The nearest public transit bus lines are #12, J, and F, and the event is within walking distance from Ashby BART. Plan your trip by bus using AC Transit's route planner. Or bike there on our bike boulevards.

When parking, please don't block driveways or double park.

This block party is one of many events the City's Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront Department team puts on throughout the year. The Department offers camps, classes, and activities for a variety of age groups and backgrounds. Use our online recreation portal to see all offerings.
