Columbia Fire Department responds to residential structure fire, Aug. 6

On Thursday, Aug. 6 at 11:04 a.m., Columbia Fire Department (CFD) companies were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 2300 block of Bluff Creek Drive.

CFD arrived within three minutes to find smoke showing from a single-story residential structure with a basement. Firefighters immediately entered the structure to locate the source of the smoke and search for occupants.

Upon investigating the structure, firefighters located the source of the smoke: a fire in the furnace area between the basement and first floor of the home. The fire was quickly brought under control and firefighters began ventilating the structure to rid the home of smoke.

There were no reported injuries. The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike to the home.

A total of five fire companies and two chief officers with 18 personnel responded to this incident.
