TNT Sports to Open 2026-27 Hockey Season with Marquee NHL on TNT Doubleheader

TNT Sports will open the 2026-27 NHL season on Wednesday, September 30 across TNT, truTV and HBO Max with a blockbuster Opening Week doubleheader showcasing some of the game's biggest stars, as the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Philadelphia Flyers at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Los Angeles Kings at 10 p.m.

Two of hockey's most passionate fan bases collide as the Battle of Pennsylvania takes center ice to renew their storied rivalry. The Penguins, led by hockey icon Sidney Crosby, will face a Flyers team centered around Trevor Zegras and Matvei Michkov looking to make a statement in front of its home crowd to begin the season.

Later in the evening, the spotlight shifts west as the Kings and Avalanche battle in a matchup loaded with star power. The Avalanche, anchored by 2024 Hart Trophy winner Nathan MacKinnon and two-time Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar, will take on a Los Angeles team featuring Artemi Panarin and Adrian Kempe in a showdown between two Western Conference heavyweights.

TNT Sports' networks and platforms will also serve as the exclusive home of the Discover NHL Winter Classic on New Year's Eve - Thursday, December 31 - as the Utah Mammoth hosts its first-ever outdoor game against the Colorado Avalanche at picturesque Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Framed by the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains, one of college football's most iconic venues will transform into a breathtaking outdoor hockey stage, delivering the unmatched atmosphere, tradition and spectacle that have made the annual event one of the hockey world's most anticipated showcases.

The 2026-27 season will once again culminate with TNT Sports' exclusive presentation of the 2027 Stanley Cup Final, crowning hockey's next champion after a thrilling postseason journey. TNT Sports will also deliver extensive coverage throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including half of the First Round, Second Round and Conference Final matchups, highlighting the sport's biggest stars and most dramatic moments on the march to hockey's ultimate prize.

The full NHL on TNT regular season broadcast schedule will be announced later this summer.
