Portland celebrates Building Safety Month

Each May, building code professionals around the world promote Building Safety Month. Organized by the International Code Council, Building Safety Month seeks to raise awareness about the importance of building safety and of modern and updated building codes.

The City of Portland is celebrating Building Safety Month by highlighting many of the professionals who work every day to ensure that Portland's buildings are safe.

This event also provides an opportunity to illustrate ways you can keep your home, workplace and their surroundings safe.

Throughout the month of May, we'll share information to help keep your homes, families and communities safe:

  • The theme of Week 1 (May 1-10) is "Safe Homes, Strong Communities." This focuses on simple actions homeowners can take to improve safety at home.
  • Week 2 (May 11-17) addresses "Voices of the Built Environment." This week spotlights building safety professionals and the roles they play in keeping our communities safe.
  • Week 3 (May 18-24) is "Prepared to Protect," encouraging community preparedness and highlighting how disaster-resilient building codes protect people and property.
  • Week 4 (May 25-31) focuses on "Communities Without Limits," showcasing the importance of accessibility in building construction and design.
