APS Launches CEO Search in Partnership with Russell Reynolds Associates

The American Physiological Society (APS) has launched the search for its next chief executive officer in collaboration with Russell Reynolds Associates, a global executive search and leadership advisory firm.

The CEO Search Committee was established by the APS Board of Directors to lead the search process for the Society's next CEO. The committee will lead the effort to identify and recommend a leader who will advance the Society's mission, strategic direction and values.

"This is a pivotal moment for the Society," said APS President-elect and Search Committee Chair Sue Bodine, PhD, FAPS. "We are seeking a leader who will build on our momentum and ensure APS remains a driving force for scientific discovery, education and advocacy."

Committee Responsibilities

The committee, which selected Russell Reynolds Associates and will define the search strategy in collaboration with them, is responsible for developing the CEO profile and leading a process that is inclusive, transparent and aligned with APS' strategic direction. This includes:

  • Defining leadership competencies and qualifications.
  • Reviewing and evaluating candidates; identifying semi-finalists and finalists.
  • Conducting screening interviews and reference checks.
  • Regular communication with the Board on progress and timeline.
  • Recommending finalists to the Board for approval and appointment.
