Resolution Recognizes Anniversary of First Flight from Lambert Field
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) announced the Senate passed his bipartisan resolution honoring the F/A-18 Super Hornet's thirty years of service.
"A little over thirty years ago, Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Fred Madenwald climbed into the cockpit of a F/A-18 Super Hornet at Lambert Field and flew the aircraft for the first time. Since then, the F/A-18 Super Hornet, which was manufactured in my hometown of St. Louis, has become an indispensable component of the Navy's carrier-based fleet. Its reliability, combat performance, and decades of service are a testament to the expertise and skill of the people who build this machine, the servicemembers that maintained it, and the pilots who fly it. This resolution honors that legacy and reaffirms our commitment to making sure that our warfighters have the very best technology and platforms in the world," said Senator Schmitt.
Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) co-led this resolution alongside Senator Schmitt. Senators Ashley Moody (R-FL), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) joined as co-sponsors.
Statements of Support:
"The F/A-18 E1 Super Hornet is a powerful symbol of American innovation and service. We are honored to house this iconic aircraft at The National Museum of Transportation," said Terri McEachern, Executive Director, The National Museum of Transportation, St. Louis, MO.
"The F/A-18 Super Hornet is a proven, highly advanced, multirole strike fighter that gives the U.S. Navy and our international partners an unparalleled advantage on the battlefield. Boeing thanks U.S. Senators Schmitt, Rosen, Moody, Duckworth, and Cortez Masto for leading this resolution celebrating the F/A-18 Super Hornet's numerous contributions to our national defense," said Jeff Shockey, Executive Vice President of Boeing Government Operations, Global Public Policy, and Corporate Strategy.
