"Everyone deserves access to high-quality, affordable health care, no matter their ZIP code. Community health centers play a critical role in making that possible," said Magaziner. "I am proud to secure $750,000 of federal funding for Wood River Health to expand its waiting area and help serve more patients across Southern Rhode Island."
"Wood River Health is extremely grateful to Congressman Magaziner for championing this federal grant to support the expansion and renovation of our waiting room in Hope Valley. The design of this renovation was informed by our staff and creates a more patient-centered experience during check-in and check-out. Support of funding for community health centers is critical to our continued ability to fulfill our mission and serve our community," said Alison Croke, President and CEO, Executive Leadership.
Rep. Magaziner secured the funding through the Fiscal Year 2026 government appropriations legislation.
Wood River Health has experienced significant growth in patient volume, driven by expanded Express Care services, increased demand fordental and behavioral health care, and its role as a Designated Collaborating Organization for Gateway Healthcare's Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic program.
The funding will allow Wood River Health to expand its waiting area and streamline patient intake to better serve its growing number of patients across Washington County's small towns and villages, many of whom are seniors.
The Hope Valley Waiting Room Expansion project will double seating capacity to reduce crowding and improve comfort for patients. The redesigned layout will create separate patient flow areas for medical, dental, and behavioral health services, helping patients move more efficiently through appointments. The project will also include safety upgrades, improved check-in areas, clearer navigation, and better visibility for staff.
