Woman Fatally Struck While Crossing Gallatin Pike In Wheelchair Monday Afternoon

The woman struck by a Honda HR-V Monday afternoon while attempting to cross Gallatin Pike South at E. Palastine Avenue in her wheelchair has died as a result of her injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates Naomi Mangrum, 75, received the walk signal at the intersection and began crossing Gallatin Pike from west to east in the crosswalk. At the same time, the Honda received the green light and began to make a left turn onto Gallatin Pike from E Palestine.

The Honda driver, Katelyn Rountree, 31, of Michigan, admitted to looking at her phone GPS just before colliding with Mangrum. Rountree was charged with failure to yield the right of way resulting in serious injury and released on $1,000 bond.
