Rep. McBride Named Leader of House Democratic Caucus Working Group on Caregiving

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Delaware Congresswoman Sarah McBride (D-Del.) announced that she has been selected by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) to lead the Caregiving Working Group, which is charged with developing the House Democratic Caucus's legislative agenda on caregiving for the next Congress. McBride will co-lead the working group alongside Rep. Morgan McGarvey (D-Ky.).

"Caregiving is an issue that affects my constituents across ages and life circumstances, and it must be at the center of our economic agenda," said Rep. McBride. "I am honored to have been selected by Leader Jeffries to lead this working group alongside Rep. McGarvey. Together, we will convene our Democratic colleagues to strategize how we can empower caregivers and families by modernizing care infrastructure, lowering costs, and fighting for working families in Delaware and across the country."

The Caregiving Working Group is one of five focused on key initiatives aimed at lowering costs for Americans, including housing, gas and utilities, groceries and goods, caregiving, and healthcare. Over the next several months, Reps. McBride and McGarvey will convene colleagues from across the House Democratic Caucus to examine how strengthening America's care infrastructure can lower costs for families and shape legislative solutions to the affordability challenges facing households nationwide.

"Nearly everyone will be a caregiver, need care, or both at some point in their lives. Yet, we've got a 1950s care infrastructure supporting a 2026 workforce. When families can't access affordable childcare, elder care, or paid leave, it impacts not only their well-being but also their ability to participate in the workforce and make ends meet. We have an opportunity to build an economy that fully supports workers, families, and caregivers, and I'm eager to help lead that effort," continued Rep. McBride.

In 2022, while serving as a Delaware State Senator, Rep. McBride passed the Healthy Delaware Families Act with bipartisan support, providing paid family and medical leave to workers across the state. In Congress, she has continued to lead on strengthening the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and expanding paid leave nationwide. She has introduced legislation including the FAIR Leave Act, the Flexible Leave Act, and is an original cosponsor of the FAMILY Act, helping ensure workers and their families can access leave when they need it most.
