Dear NCCU Family,
Today, we pause to remember and honor the life of Jessica Nelson, a junior in our online business administration program, who passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Jessica was a devoted wife, mother, woman of deep faith and a determined scholar who believed in the power of education to transform lives. With a voice that lifted souls in her church choir, she brought joy, peace and harmony wherever she went. She was the peacemaker of her family, the one who gave freely without expecting anything in return and the quiet force who illuminated any space she entered.
Her passing leaves a tremendous void, but her legacy is one of courage, compassion and commitment: qualities that we, as Eagles, must carry forward in her honor.
In moments of loss, our strength lies in community. I encourage each of you to lean on one another and seek support when needed. Counseling services for students are available by calling 919-530-7646 or by visiting the Student Health Building, second floor, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with drop-in hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Faculty and staff can connect with ComPsych through the HR page for confidential support.
Jessica's life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at Cunningham & Associates Funeral Services LLC, 87 Brookland Church Road, Hwy #158 East, in Roxboro, N.C.
Please keep her family, friends, classmates and professors in your thoughts and prayers.
In Truth and Service,
Dr. Karrie G. Dixon
Chancellor
