Gosar, Hagerty Move to Stop D.C. Democrats from Doxxing Federal Law Enforcement Officers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09) issued the following statement in response to introducing H.J. Res. 192 and H.J. Res. 193 to overturn two dangerous District of Columbia Council measures that would force the public disclosure of identifying information about federal law enforcement officers involved in arrests and use-of-force incidents. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) has introduced companion resolutions in the Senate, S.J. Res. 194 and S.J. Res. 195.

The resolutions would disapprove the D.C. Council's Full Accountability in Arrest Reporting Temporary Amendment Act of 2026 and the Body-Worn Camera Transparency for Use of Force Temporary Amendment Act of 2026, measures that threaten the safety of federal officers and their families by exposing them to harassment, retaliation, and violence.

"Federal law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, enforce our laws, and defend the American people. They should not have to worry that doing their jobs will result in their names, identities, and personal information being exposed to criminals, violent extremists, or those seeking retaliation."

"The D.C. Council's actions would place a target on the backs of the men and women who serve in federal law enforcement. Transparency and accountability are important, but they must never come at the expense of officer safety or the integrity of ongoing investigations."

"At a time when law enforcement officers are already under attack, the last thing Congress should tolerate is a local government putting federal agents and their families at risk. Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to stop reckless policies that invite harassment, intimidation, and violence. I am proud to work alongside Senator Hagerty to ensure these dangerous measures never take effect," stated Congressman Paul Gosar.

"The D.C. Council has no business pressuring federal policymakers-or federal law enforcement-to appease their radical base. The council has shamefully enacted proposals that would invite doxxing of the very same federal law enforcement officers who have made our capital city safe by requiring the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to collect and release footage and personal information of federal law enforcement officers after a serious use of force. I am calling on my colleagues in the Senate to join me in condemning the council's dangerous policies, particularly during a time when ICE officers are experiencing an 8,000% increase in death threats and a 1,300% increase in assaults," added Senator Bill Hagerty.

Background:

Under the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, Congress retains authority to review and disapprove legislation enacted by the D.C. Council. H.J. Res. 192 and H.J. Res. 193 exercise that authority to protect federal law enforcement personnel from policies that could jeopardize their safety and undermine their ability to carry out their duties.
