PRESS RELEASE - Torrance City Council Votes To Keep 2026 Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration on Torrance Boulevard

Torrance, Calif., December 19, 2025 - During a Special City Council Meeting held this evening, the Torrance City Council voted to keep the 2026 Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration on its traditional route along Torrance Boulevard, reaffirming the City's long-standing commitment to one of its most cherished community traditions.

The Council's action follows strong community feedback in response to a December 2, 2025 Council decision that approved relocating the event to the Torrance Municipal Airport. At tonight's meeting, residents, veterans, community groups, and longtime parade supporters spoke passionately about the importance of preserving the historic Torrance Boulevard route, emphasizing its symbolic significance, accessibility, and deep-rooted connection to the City's identity.

After hearing public testimony and further discussions, the City Council voted to reverse the prior decision and maintain the Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration along Torrance Boulevard, where it has proudly honored members of the U.S. Armed Forces for more than six decades.

The discussion stems from recommendations made by the Armed Forces Day Special Standing Committee following its July 1, 2025 meeting, where the Committee reviewed the 2025 event and explored options to address rising costs, operational demands, and long-term sustainability. City staff subsequently developed multiple planning scenarios, including a consolidated airport model, which was initially approved on December 2. However, continued community engagement and feedback made clear the strong desire to preserve the traditional parade route.

City staff will now move forward with planning for the 2026 Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration along Torrance Boulevard, collaborating closely with City departments to ensure a safe and successful event for all.
