DENVER - Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is inviting residents to leave their mark on the city through a new sidewalk stamp contest. The contest is an opportunity to design a stamp that will be embedded in sidewalks across Denver for years to come. The winning design will become a lasting feature of the city's public spaces and receive a $1,000 prize.
The contest is open to Denver residents of all ages and backgrounds, and encourages submissions that reflect the city's identity, creativity, and commitment to safe, accessible, and equitable sidewalks. Designs must meet durability and size requirements to ensure they hold up over time in concrete. Submissions are due July 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Finalists will be selected by a review panel before advancing to a public vote to determine the winning design.
Community members can apply now at: denvergov.org/sidewalks
This stamp contest launches alongside a second survey that supports DOTI in creating its first Sidewalk Implementation Plan (SIP) - a long-term roadmap for building, widening, and repairing Denver's sidewalk network.
DOTI completed a round of outreach earlier this year, building off past planning efforts to confirm public priorities for where sidewalk improvements are needed most. Based on the input received and ongoing technical analysis, the department is now evaluating different approaches for phasing sidewalk improvements across the city. This includes assessing how to balance resources between constructing new sidewalks and widening and repairing existing sidewalks; how to deliver improvements quickly while focusing on areas where people walk and roll most; and how to distribute investments between our most stressful streets and neighborhood streets.
DOTI wants Denverites' input on the benefits and trade-offs of different paths forward. Residents can ensure their voices are heard by filling out a brief survey, open through Friday, July 31, at 11:59 p.m. at bit.ly/SIPphase2survey.
Denver residents can learn more about the Sidewalk Program by reviewing the Charting the Path Forward report at bit.ly/ChartingThePathForward, which summarizes how DOTI is exploring priorities, risks, and different ways to improve and expand Denver's sidewalk network. The final Sidewalk Implementation Plan will combine both public input and technical considerations and will inform sidewalk planning, design, and construction.
To learn more how Denver's Sidewalk Program is charting the path forward and ask questions of the project team, DOTI invites the public to register and attend a Zoom webinar next month.
Day: Wednesday, July 8
Time: 6-7 p.m.

The project team will also have a presence at existing events throughout Denver in June and July, where the public can learn more about the Program, plan and provide in-person feedback. Visit our website at denvergov.org/SIP to see the events near you.
About Denver's Sidewalk Program
Sidewalks are basic infrastructure for people walking and rolling and are crucial in creating and maintaining an equitable and vibrant city. Sidewalks connect all residents to schools, businesses and parks and guarantee that everyone, including adults, children and people with disabilities, has the independence to move about the city freely and safely.
With a new fee approved by voters, Denver is creating a comprehensive program to repair damaged sidewalks, reconstruct sidewalks that are deficient width, and build new sidewalks where they're missing. Starting in 2025, the new fee for sidewalks has been included on people's bi-annual stormwater bills. Once fully built out, Denver's sidewalk network will be approximately 3,489 miles - about the distance from Denver to New York City and back again!
