Digital IDs Coming Soon

Illinois residents may soon be able to access their driver's licenses and state IDs on a mobile device. House Minority Leader Tony McCombie supported the legislation that would permit the digital ID feature to be available to Illinois residents, which took effect January 1st. Here's what you should know:

• Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is working with Apple Wallet to launch the feature by the end of the year; the feature will be available in the future for other digital wallets, including Google Wallet for Android users.
• Digital access to driver's licenses and state IDs will be available through an iPhone or Apple Watch.
• Illinois will join 10 other states and territories that have adopted IDs in Apple Wallet, including Arizona, Colorado, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio, and Puerto Rico.
