Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian paid a courtesy call on Minister for Information Hon. Lynda Tabuya on September 4. The two sides exchanged views on China-Fiji relations and cooperation in the communication and information sector.
Ambassador Zhou gave an introduction to the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. He highlighted that the Initiative sets out the principles, approach and pathway for global governance reform, contributing Chinese wisdom to addressing global governance deficit. He said that China will work with all parties including Fiji to enhance cooperation to seek early harvest in priority areas such as artificial intelligence, cyberspace, climate change and trade. He invited Fiji to support the Initiative and join efforts with China to move forward reform of the global governance system.
Minister Tabuya welcomed the Initiative. She said it came at just the right time, as China's model is getting popular and the international community is looking to China for solutions to global challenges. She expressed readiness to deepen Fiji-China cooperation in the communication and information sector. She reaffirmed Fiji's commitment to the one-China principle.
