Georgia woman charged with assisting in the preparation of false tax returns

SCDOR agents arrested a Georgia woman on Friday and charged her with eight counts of assisting in the preparation of false South Carolina Individual Income Tax returns.

Rhonda Gayle Turner Garner, 61, of Atlanta, was the owner of AdnohR Services and Connections and filed South Carolina Individual Income Tax returns on behalf of clients from 2017-2024. According to arrest warrants, Garner fraudulently overstated deductions, losses, and credits on tax returns she prepared by at least $1,182,943, without the consent or knowledge of her clients.

Garner's actions reduced the tax liability for her clients and led to increased tax refunds that they were not entitled to receive. She then charged a percentage of the clients' refunds as tax preparation fees. As a result of her actions, the state had a total loss of at least $69,204 in Income Tax.

If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a fine of $500 for each count. She is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
