Lead With Literacy invites students to ‘Fall Into A Mystery’ during Fall Break

Fall Break is getting a little more mysterious this year as Macon Violence Prevention partner Lead With Literacy gives students a chance to trade the traditional classroom for clues, mysteries, and hands-on learning.

Fall Into A Mystery will be held October 12-14 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at 2001 Karl Drive in Warner Robins. Enrollment is limited to approximately 30 campers to keep groups small and make sure every student can fully participate in the experience.

Registration is $150 per camper and includes all three days of camp.

"We wanted to give families an option during Fall Break that combines fun with meaningful learning," says Tamika Withers with Lead With Literacy. "Kids deserve a break from the traditional school day, but that doesn't mean learning has to stop."

Throughout the three-day camp, students will become detectives, examining clues, reading witness statements, working through a scavenger-style investigation, and using evidence to develop a final theory. Campers will also participate in reading workshops, STEM activities, and team challenges. And because camp is being held at Rigby's, there will be plenty of time for fun, including bowling and skating.

The mystery theme was intentionally designed to show students how literacy skills can be used beyond the classroom.

"A mystery naturally requires students to read closely, notice details, ask questions, make inferences, and use evidence, all of the same skills we want strong readers to develop," says Lead With Literacy. "Turning those skills into a detective experience felt like a fun way to bring literacy to life."

Lead With Literacy has offered other seasonal enrichment experiences, including its Holiday Hangout. This summer, the organization also partnered with the Macon-Bibb County Recreation Department to provide literacy workshops at summer camp sites throughout the city.

Through Fall Into A Mystery, organizers hope students leave camp seeing reading and learning a little differently.

"We want them to leave more confident, curious, and excited about reading and learning," says Lead With Literacy. "We want them to see that literacy is more than sitting down with a book. Reading, writing, asking questions, finding evidence, and thinking critically are skills they can use in fun, real-world situations."

Families can register a camper for $150, and community members or businesses can also sponsor a camper for $150, giving another student the opportunity to attend at no cost.

Additional sponsorship opportunities include $100 Snack Sponsors, $250 Book Sponsors, and $500 Activity Sponsors. In-kind donations are also welcome. Lead With Literacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Registration will remain open until all available spots are filled, so families are encouraged to sign up early.
