This summer, getting around Santa Fe just got easier and free. The City of Santa Fe is launching a special pilot program on the Santa Fe Trails transit system that will allow all riders to use bus services free of charge on Sundays from June 7 through Sept. 6.
The "Fare Free Sundays" initiative is designed to encourage public transit use, improve accessibility to community events and local businesses, and provide residents and visitors with an affordable transportation option throughout the summer months.
Under the pilot program, passengers will not be required to pay fares on any Santa Fe Trails fixed-route buses operating on Sundays during the program period.
Mayor Michael Garcia said the program reflects the City's commitment to expanding transportation access and supporting the community.
"Fare Free Sundays is an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to experience the convenience of public transit while reducing transportation costs and encouraging more sustainable travel throughout Santa Fe," Garcia said.
City officials will monitor ridership and community feedback during the pilot period to help evaluate the program's effectiveness and determine potential future transit initiatives.
