Today, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) issued the following statement regarding the tragic death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis:
"The loss of human life is always a tragedy, and I'm saddened by the death of Alex Pretti. I support a full, thorough investigation into the shooting based on facts - not emotion. Our federal law enforcement officers must be able to fulfill their constitutional duty to enforce our laws fairly and effectively without criminal interference. We also need more transparency for our law enforcement agencies so we aren't relying on cell phone videos from law enforcement and bystanders, which is why I voted just last week to provide an additional $20 million specifically to supply body worn cameras for the officers enforcing our immigration laws. I encourage everyone to de-escalate the rhetoric that is contributing to obstruction, tension, and chaos and making our communities less safe."
