(Boise, Idaho, October 26, 2026) - U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Idaho State Director Rick D. Youngblood announced $1.88 million is awarded to support critical upgrades to the drinking water system of Horseshoe Bend through USDA's Water and Environmental Programs.
"Water investments help rural families, businesses, farmers and ranchers now and for future generations to come." said Youngblood. "This isn't just about water; it's about supporting the long-term health and growth of the communities we serve."
With a $498,000 grant and a $1.38 million loan, Horseshoe Bend will build a new water storage reservoir that will replace the community's aging redwood tank, originally constructed between 1971 and 1974. The old tank developed an active leak, and the new reservoir will improve system reliability, protect water quality, and ensure a safe, consistent drinking water supply. Residents and businesses throughout Horseshoe Bend will benefit from a modernized, resilient water infrastructure that supports the community's growth.
USDA's Water and Environmental Programs help rural communities obtain the technical assistance and financing necessary to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems. Safe drinking water and sanitary waste disposal systems are vital not only to public health, but also to the economic vitality of rural America.
