CABEI reinforces its environmental commitment with the Lago de Yojoa Recovery Program

Tegucigalpa, November 7th, 2024.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) conducted a field visit to Lago de Yojoa as part of the Lago de Yojoa Sustainable Recovery Program, one of the country's most important environmental projects. This program is aligned with CABEI's strategy to promote environmental sustainability and equitable socioeconomic and social development.

The visit included the participation of a CABEI delegation led by the Director for Guatemala, Mario Jacobs, who together with representatives of Guatemala's Municipal Water Enterprise (EMPAGUA), the Secretariat of Natural Resources and the Environment (SERNA), the Association of Municipalities of Lago de Yojoa and its Area of Influence (AMUPROLAGO) and the Consortium INYPSA- CW Soluciones Ambientales of Honduras, participated in a tour to get an overview of the program's initial progress and the actions planned for its implementation.

Participants were given a tour of Lago de Yojoa to get a firsthand view of the ecosystem and understand the environmental challenges affecting the lake and the basin in general. The Lago de Yojoa Sustainable Recovery Program, approved by CABEI's Board of Directors in July of this year, includes the development of resilient infrastructure, wastewater treatment and proper solid waste management. In addition, governance and land management strategies will be implemented, as well as capacity building in the communities. These interventions aim to address environmental threats, improve the quality of life of local communities and establish a firm path towards their long-term sustainable recovery.

During the visit, the findings of the comprehensive diagnostic were presented, allowing for an enriching exchange of ideas on project opportunities. This initiative reinforces CABEI's commitment to sustainability and regional development, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
