Union Grove High School Hosting Veterans on Friday

Numerous Veterans Day Ceremonies Planned in Coming Days

UNION GROVE - Numerous local communities observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11 with programs and ceremonies to honor the men and women who have served in the United States armed forces.

The ceremonies kick off on Friday, Nov. 7 at Union Grove High School with its annual Veterans Day Observance.

Veterans are welcome to gather in the school cafeteria between 8 and 8:30 a.m. for check-in, coffee and kringle. The program is scheduled to begin promptly at 8:55 a.m. in the school's large gymnasium, where students and staff join veterans for the ceremony.

Ceremonies continue this weekend and into next week. Here is a list of upcoming, area Veterans Day events:

FRIDAY, NOV. 7

Union Grove Veterans Day Observance

When: 8 a.m. (check in) 8:55 a.m. (program)

Where: Union Grove High School, 3433 S. Colony Ave., Union Grove

Note: Attendees are encouraged to RSVP and submit a veteran's photo for the slide show presentation.

Christian Life School Veterans Day Program

When: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Where: Journey Church Auditorium, 10700 75th St., Kenosha

SATURDAY, NOV. 8

Veterans Day Breakfast

When: 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Where: Village Pub of Silver Lake, 307 N. Cogswell Drive, Silver Lake.

MONDAY, NOV. 10

Gateway Technical College Veterans Honor Dinner

When: 5 to 7 p.m.

Where: Gateway Kenosha Campus, 3520 30th Ave., Kenosha (Atrium)

Note: This year's guest speaker this year is retired Army veteran Joshua Deron, a Crystal Lake VFW Memorial Post 12014 Commander. Among many other things, he is also a peer support specialist at Veterans Path to Hope, which provides housing assistance, employment assistance and more for veterans. TUESDAY, NOV. 11

American Legion Post 21, American Legion Family Veterans Day Celebration

When: 10 a.m. to Noon. The program includes the Flanders Field Ceremony (10:45 a.m.), Rendering of Honors (11 a.m.), coffee and doughnuts before the ceremony and Veterans Day stew (11:15 a.m.)

Burlington Veterans Day Program

When: 11 a.m.

Where: Veterans Terrace, 589 Milwaukee Ave., Burlington

Note: Opening ceremonies with presenting of the colors begins at 11 a.m. A gun salute takes place at 11:11 a.m. to honor the armistice of World War I.

Elkhorn Veterans Day Program

When: 8:15 a.m. (breakfast), 9:25 a.m. (program)

Where: Elkhorn Area High School, 482 E. Geneva Street, Elkhorn

Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony

When: Noon

Where: Library Park, 711 59th Place, Kenosha

Lake Geneva Veterans Day Celebration

When: 9:30 a.m. (program), 11 a.m. (luncheon)

Where: Lake Geneva Middle School, 600 N. Bloomfield Road, Lake Geneva

Note: Program features performances by the school's orchestra, band and choir. Colors presented by Lake Geneva's American Legion Post 24

Racine Veterans Day Ceremony

When: 10 a.m.

Where: Memorial Hall, 72 Seventh Street, Racine

Note: The event is hosted by 2025 Miss Wisconsin Willow Newell and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Zachary Zdroik. After the ceremony, the VFW Post 1391 is presenting a sumptuous Stew Feed.

Salem Consolidated Grade School Veterans Day Program

When: 8:45 to 9:15 a.m.

Where: 8828 Antioch Road, Salem, enter the North Gym, through Door #11.

Shoreland Lutheran High School Veterans Day Ceremony

When: 2:15 p.m.

Where: 9026 12th St, Somers

Note: The special guest speaker is Navy Veteran Jeremy Krusemark, with music and a reception to follow. RSVP to [email protected] or 262 859-2595.

Veterans Day Program at the Civil War Museum, presented by Navy Club Ship 40

When: 11 a.m.

Where: Civil War Museum, Freedom Hall, 5400 First Ave, Kenosha

Note: This special ceremony honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans is led by Navy Ship Club 40. All are welcome to attend and show support for local veterans.

Wilmot Union High School Veterans Day Breakfast & Observance

When: 7:45 a.m. (Breakfast), 8:45 a.m. (Assembly)

Where: Wilmot Union High School Commons & Veterans Memorial Field House, 11112 308th Ave, Wilmot

Note: All community veterans and family members are invited. Please RSVP to Lisa Obertin at 262-862-2351, ext. 321m or [email protected]. Please indicate your name and the number of guests attending breakfast.

VFW Post 1865 Veterans Day Celebration Events

When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: 6618 39th Ave, Kenosha

Note: VFW Post 1865 will be hosting a variety of events on Veterans Day, kicking off the day with a Veterans Ceremony. Lunch (beef stew) will be provided by the post, followed by a flag retirement ceremony at 1 p.m.
