Governor’s Flag Order in Memory and Respect of United States Army Major Bianca C. Wilkerson

RICHMOND, VA - Governor Abigail Spanberger today released the following flag order in memory and respect of United States Army Major Bianca C. Wilkerson of Norfolk, Virginia, who selflessly served her country, Commonwealth, and community.

In accordance with the authority vested in me as Governor, I hereby order that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in memory and respect of United States Army Major Bianca C. Wilkerson.

Major Wilkerson graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from Virginia Commonwealth University. Following in her grandfather's footsteps in serving her country, Major Wilkerson joined the Army Reserves after graduating from VCU, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and serving as a transportation officer before moving to active duty. She served with the 1st Armored Division and the 25th Infantry Division. In 2023, Major Wilkerson became the company commander of the Huntington Beach Recruiting Company in California.

At the time of her passing, Major Wilkerson was the G4 supply and services chief with U.S. Army Central and Third Army at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. Outside of her service, Major Wilkerson was known as a light in her family - always helping others, including the animals she loved and volunteered to support. She was also an accomplished musician, marathon runner, and volunteer who loved hiking, traveling, and her family.

I offer my deepest condolences to the Wilkerson family and all who are grieving during this difficult time. Please know that a grateful Commonwealth honors Major Wilkerson's selfless service to the United States of America, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and her community.

I hereby order that the flags shall be lowered at sunrise on Thursday, October 22, 2026, and remain at half-staff until sunset.
