Committee Republicans Vote to Dismantle the Education Department

WASHINGTON - Today, Committee Republicans forced through H.R. 8210, a partisan version of A Stronger Workforce for America Act.

The original, bipartisan and bicameral bill, introduced in the 118th Congress, was the result of months of bipartisan work and nearly became law until it was publicly misrepresented by Elon Musk and pulled from the end-of-year spending package. Instead of continuing this bipartisan work, Committee Republicans advanced a partisan version of the legislation that would codify the illegal dismantling of the Education Department by the Trump Administration.

"It was my hope that we could [get] back together and take that bipartisan foundation to pass this important bill for the American people, said Ranking Member Scott. "Instead, here we are considering […] a bill that shares the name of that bipartisan effort but not its substance. It is disappointing that the bipartisan framework that was negotiated by Dr. Foxx was not replicated in this bill. Instead of building on that framework, you've chosen to take the name of a bipartisan bill and poison it with a version of a bill that lacks consensus and ensures it will not advance in the Senate or ever become law in its current form."

Committee Democrats offered multiple amendments to improve the bill by removing partisan poison pills that would harm workers and job seekers. Committee Republicans rejected all these amendments.
