Campus community celebrates life of GVU Foundation member David Mehney

"Dave's generosity and vision exemplified what it means to be a true friend of Grand Valley," said President Philomena V. Mantella. "Through his support - not just of buildings, but of students, programs and opportunity - he helped shape the university. We are deeply grateful for his legacy, which will benefit generations of Lakers to come."

Mehney's commitment to Grand Valley extended beyond academics. He strongly believed in the value of athletics. He supported the Irwin Athletic Fund, and, along with his family, helped fund the Hosford Football Center, ensuring that Laker football program remains competitive. The Mehney Family Rehabilitation Room was named in honor of his family and stands as a testament to their commitment to student athlete well-being.

A lifelong member of the East Grand Rapids community, Mehney served on city and school boards and led numerous local fundraising efforts. He was the founder of Kawasaki Midwest Motorcycles Inc. (later the KMW Group, Inc.), serving as its president since 1966. He held leadership roles with many organizations, including St. John's Home, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, Camp Blodgett, Michigan National Bank and the Porter Hills Foundation board.
