AJC Welcomes Confirmation of Yehuda Kaploun as Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, welcomes last night's confirmation of Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun to serve as U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism.

"The position of U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, and the office's mandate, is more vital now than ever in its 20-year history - a fact we were acutely reminded of as 15 lives were brutally cut short in Australia on the first night of Hannukah," said AJC CEO Ted Deutch. "As antisemitism continues to rise and manifest in violent, deadly attacks, this office must remain fully resourced and prioritized. Rabbi Kaploun is a lifelong advocate for the Jewish people and I'm confident he will do well in this role. We thank the Senate for confirming this nomination and acting to do so swiftly following the Bondi Beach attack. AJC looks forward to working with Rabbi Kaploun as he steps into this critical role."

Over the last several months, including during testimony in front of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in May 2025, Deutch highlighted the importance of swiftly confirming Kaploun, as well as providing adequate funding for the office - steps integral to enabling the United States to continue serving as the leader on the world stage in the fight against antisemitism and to protect Jewish communities across the globe.

AJC has long understood the importance of this role, and both contributed to and supported the bipartisan Global Antisemitism Review Act of 2004, which first established the position, as well as the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism Act, which elevated this role to the rank of Ambassador and strengthened its position within the U.S. Department of State.
