HARRISBURG - State Rep. Andrea Verobish (R-Blair) offered an amendment to House Bill 2300, a measure that would allow the Department of Revenue to mandate a real-time tax collection software for the Commonwealth's businesses. Verobish's amendment made two changes.
First, it added language that requires the department to wait until any appeals are completed before entering a taxpayer into the program. Second, it gives the taxpayer 60 days from the date of notification by the department to pay what they owe before being entered into the program.
"While a noble intention, I worry that House Bill 2300 would have placed an undue burden on our small businesses," Verobish said. "My amendment would ensure only taxpayers that are truly delinquent are enrolled in the real time sales tax collection program proposed by this legislation. We all know how hard it can be to keep track of everything going on in our daily lives, and giving the taxpayers a chance to settle their debt before forcing them to participate in the tax collection program under this bill is something we should encourage."
Verobish's amendment passed unanimously and is now included in House Bill 2300. The measure now awaits third and final consideration before the House.
