Equality California Endorses Out-LGBTQ+ Leader Marni von Wilpert for Congress in CA-48

PALM SPRINGS - Equality California, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced the endorsement of out LGBTQ+ San Diego City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert in California's 48th Congressional District. Von Wilpert is attempting to flip this seat and oust anti-equality incumbent Darrell Issa. Equality California Executive Director Tony Hoang released the following statement:

"Throughout her career, Marni has been a champion for the LGBTQ+ community and the diverse communities that make up CA-48. As an out LGBTQ+ elected leader, her record on the San Diego City Council includes defending access to inclusive library resources and standing up to censorship and bigotry, and, earlier in her career, working as a civil rights attorney in Mississippi to protect people living with HIV/AIDS from discrimination in housing, employment, and health care. We know that she will bring this same leadership and advocacy to the halls of Congress.

The new CA-48 - uniting LGBTQ+-rich communities from Palm Springs to Escondido - deserves a representative who will stand up to the Trump administration's attacks on immigrants, transgender kids and their families, and other vulnerable communities. Current Representative Darrell Issa has consistently aligned himself with Donald Trump, including voting against certifying the 2020 election results and opposing both abortion access and marriage equality.

Riverside and San Diego counties deserve better - they deserve a champion in Congress. We believe Marni is that champion and the candidate best positioned to defeat Darrell Issa."
