KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mayor Quinton Lucas, City Manager Mario Vasquez, and Tracey Lewis, President and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City (EDCKC), today met with Costco executive leadership to discuss the future of the Midtown Costco and reaffirm the City's commitment to retaining the store and its vital services in our community.
The meeting comes in response to discussions about the potential conversion of the Linwood Boulevard Costco location, a store Midtowners and urban Kansas Citians have come to rely on for over a generation for food, pharmacy, and household goods.
City officials and EDCKC had a fruitful conversation today with Costco executives about the importance of the store to Kansas City and Midtown. Costco shared their long-term interest in Kansas City and the Midtown area.
"The Midtown Costco has served Kansas City families for generations, and the City and Costco are working hard to maintain a long-term presence," said Mayor Lucas. "I'm encouraged by the conversation, and we will continue to all we can to ensure the store remains what it has always been for Midtown-a key provider of food, goods, and services."
The City will continue its engagement with Costco leadership in the coming weeks as both sides work toward a path forward that preserves this critical community resource.
