Sacramento's premier contracting event opens doors for small businesses

Meet the Buyers puts local businesses in front of SMUD purchasers who award $500 million in contracts

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Local businesses can meet face-to-face with procurement teams at SMUD's free Meet the Buyers event on Thursday, Aug. 20. Entrepreneurs can pitch directly to the purchasing teams who've awarded more than $500 million in contracts to local small businesses over the past few years - money that stayed right here in our community.

WHAT:

Meet the Buyers & Business Resources Expo

WHEN:

Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE:

SMUD Customer Service Center,

6301 S Street, Sacramento, 95817

WHO:

SMUD representatives, current SMUD business partners, local public agencies, California Department of General Services, Caltrans, Sacramento County, Regional Transit, California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and more than 300 small and large business representatives.

Attendees can showcase their products, services and capability statements to key decision-makers and explore contracting opportunities across construction, materials, professional services and information technology teams.

Meet the Buyers is one of the region's biggest events for local vendors, giving businesses a chance to learn how to do business with SMUD, build relationships and connect with the procurement teams and partners that can help them grow.

Interview opportunities with SMUD and small business leaders available prior and during event.

Carlos Costa, a veteran and vice president at Folsom-based Stanfield Systems (featured here), said SMUD's business resources and events have helped the IT firm grow and gain visibility.

"SMUD brought us to the table," Costa said. "Through Meet the Buyers, we've had direct access to procurement officers, contract managers and decision-makers who can open doors for a business like ours. That doesn't happen in any place but SMUD's Meet the Buyers."

Businesses can learn more about Meet the Buyers and register for free at smud.org.
